We are a dedicated and dynamic team within the SEND and Inclusion service, committed to enhancing the wellbeing and educational outcomes of children, young people, and families across West Sussex. Our Educational Psychology Service (EPS) is integral to delivering the Local Authority's wellbeing and Special Educational Needs and Disability strategies. Based in Worthing and Horsham, our team also oversees the Portage Service and the Mental Health Support Teams in schools.

We offer a wide range of evidence-based support to schools and other settings, including consultation and training through our growing chargeable service. Our initiatives include the well-developed Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) programme and county-wide Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA) support, with Educational Psychologists contributing to services such as our Virtual School and specialist CAMHS service.

About the Role: As an Educational Psychologist, you will provide comprehensive educational psychology services through advice, consultation, assessment, training, research, and evaluation to the local authority, schools, and other settings. Your focus will be on children with additional needs and difficulties within a designated area of the county.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Honours Degree in Psychology or equivalent
  • Substantial experience working with children in educational or children's services
  • Postgraduate professional training as an educational psychologist
  • Commitment to continuing professional development

Desirable:

  • Recent experience or training as an educational psychologist
  • Teaching or experience in multiple sectors of education or work with children and young people
  • Knowledge of applying psychology in practice
  • Awareness of current professional challenges and opportunities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work according to the aims and objectives of the Special Educational Needs and Intervention Business Plan and the Educational Psychology Service Business Plan
  • Support children, young people, families, and teachers within a designated geographical area
  • Assist in developing educational arrangements to promote learning and participation
  • Advise on educational surveys and monitoring procedures
  • Contribute to the County's response to critical incidents and sad events
  • Provide training and supervision for teachers, other professionals, and students
