We have an exciting opportunity for a Science Technician to join the team on a part-time, term time only basis. In return,you will receive a competitive salary of £22,070 per annum, pro rata.

About the role:

As the Science Technician you will facilitate and supervise the effective and efficient running of laboratories and other science facilities, and to assist and support teaching staff in the preparation of practical/demonstration activities for a range of health and science courses. The post holder will also be responsible for the Health and Safety of the labs, ensuring that adherence to Health and Safety guidelines are maintained at all times.

Responsibilities as our Science Technician will include:

  • Ensure that all guidelines and legislation relating to Health and Safety procedures are observed within directorate and to conduct and record risk assessment activities.
  • Issuing and receiving, maintain a stock check for an adequate supply of materials, equipment and apparatus.
  • Supervise and assist in the preparation of practical and demonstration sessions in laboratories, workrooms and in naturalistic/simulation settings.
  • Assist academic staff in the production of training and learning materials as appropriate.
  • Supervise and assist with the preparation/set up/operation of equipment, materials and apparatus as directed, reclaiming reusable materials and disposing of out of date materials and equipment.
  • Maintain, repair and fabricate apparatus and equipment and proactively ensure that workrooms are clean in accordance with current Health and Safety regulations.
  • Take appropriate responsibility to ensure the health and safety of self and others.
  • Undertake professional/vocational development activities as required in order to adhere to Health and Safety regulations and to further both personal and professional development.

As our Science Technician you'll ideally have:

  • Level 2 (or equivalent) English and Maths
  • Minimum of Level 4 Qualification in a core science specialism.
  • Experience of working within a science laboratory department.
  • Experience in monitoring and controlling Stock.
  • Experience in supervising and training others
  • Current practice/knowledge of Health & Safety regulations and procedures for working in a laboratory setting and working with hazardous chemicals
  • Knowledge of a range of practical science techniques at Levels 2 and 3
  • Competence in Microsoft Office applications
  • Communication skills including written and verbal
  • Strong administration skills
  • Reliability and integrity to ensure high standards of personal and professional conduct
