Tax Accountant

Our client is a law firm with offices located in the UK, Europe and the Middle East. Their aim is to become the leading Law firm combining specialist business law and private wealth advice internationally. They have over 1000 staff, which includes over 150 Partners and approximately 40 employees within the Finance team.

They currently have a new opportunity for Tax Accountant to join their team on a permanent basis. This newly created role will primarily assist the Group Financial Controller, focussing on all aspects of the Firm's tax compliance for UK and non-UK entities including partnership tax computations, corporate tax and VAT compliance. Additionally, the role will work closely with the Partnership Accountant on partnership tax matters including partner tax reserving.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the preparation and submission of the LLP and corporate tax returns and computations in conjunction with the external tax advisors
  • Acting as one of the key contacts (with the CFO, Group FC and Partnership Accountant) for HMRC, tax advisors and partners' accountants on tax matters
  • Preparation of annual partner tax reserving calculations
  • Responsible for bi-annual partners tax payments in conjunction with the firm's tax advisors.
  • Work closely with Partnership Accountant to review partners tax reserves and input into annual statement process
  • Responsible for reviewing and maintaining tax records, reports and other related materials ensures that documentation for all tax processes across the Firm is reviewed and updated periodically
  • Manage and coordinate tax audits or VAT investigations
  • Develop an understanding of global approach to profit sharing in CRS Group
  • Responsible for international transfer pricing maintenance of intercompany accounts & invoicing
  • Work closely with International Management Accountant to ensure tax related matters are dealt with in a timely manner
  • Oversee the preparation and submission of VAT returns in UK and international locations
  • Ensure compliance with UK and international VAT requirements
  • Assist with the corporate tax compliance for the non UK offices
  • Responsibility for other HMRC reporting requirements including the PAYE settlement agreement
  • Request Tax Residence Certificates and other confirmation letters and advising colleagues on withholding tax issues
  • Completion of withholding tax reclaim forms
  • Assists with research and analysis of existing and upcoming tax legislation (locally and internationally) to support the Firm's planning and strategy, for example in relation to the upcoming UK basis period reform
  • Work with the CFO and GFC to identify and mitigate tax risks (including PE risk and other risks associated with requests to work overseas)

Candidate Profile

  • CTA and/or ACA qualified or equivalent
  • Maintains an in depth, up to date, knowledge of tax accounting, tax compliance and all types of tax returns.
  • Ideally the candidate will have experience of partnership accounting and tax affairs including knowledge of partnership tax.
  • The ideal candidate will also have an understanding of the international tax issues impacting a global law firm.
  • Analytical skills with detail orientation
  • High level or IT literacy, in particular excel.
  • Experience of Elite 3e is preferred but not vital.
  • Ability to build trust and confidence from the wide range of internal and external stakeholders.
