Student Mentor

The School
A large college in a picturesque location with good public transport links and ample parking. It has a wide range of amenities nearby. The college offers a variety of further education courses. It has a dedicated wellbeing team who offer support for students with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities)/SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs.

The Role
You will work as part of the wellbeing team, offering support to key students. Most of your time will be spent meeting with students and supporting their social and emotional development. You will be assigned specific students to mentor and will act as the first point of contact for any wellbeing related concerns. You will also liaise with college staff and external professionals, to ensure individualised support is effective and results in improved outcomes for students.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Regular meetings with key students
  • Provide individual support to develop wellbeing and mental health
  • Monitor progress and document this electronically
  • Collaborate with parents, other college staff and external professionals

Essential Criteria:

  • Experience working with post-16 students
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Compassionate and patient
  • Excellent listening skills

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience working in an SEMH setting
