Pensions Assistant

This role has a starting salary of £29,697 per annum, based on working 36-hours per week.

We are excited to be hiring a new Pensions Assistant to join our fantastic Surrey Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) People, Organisational Development and Pensions team for a fixed term contract of 18 months. The team is based in Woodhatch Place, Reigate.

About the Role
The Surrey Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) Pensions Team are currently in the process of working through several key pension projects - two of which are sector wide. As the Pensions Assistant, you will provide administrative support to the Pensions Team, to facilitate the day-to-day operations together with the projects work. This will include responding to basic member queries and creating specific documentation to inform and update pension scheme members, with the support of the Pensions Officer (SFRS) and Senior Pensions Advisor.

Further responsibilities will involve managing the Pension Team mailbox, including tracking and updating workflows as well as liaising with the external administrator of the pension scheme, where required. You will also draft basic letters/emails and create communications for members via various channels such as the Surrey Fire and Rescue Service Newsletter and the Pensions' SharePoint site.

The role holder may also be required to attend fire stations to present and explain complex pension matters in a calm and easy to understand manner.

As you will be part of the Pensions Team and completing a range of administrative tasks, you must have strong organisational skills, as well as an awareness of data protection and dealing with sensitive matters, to provide exceptional customer service. An aptitude for working with numerical data and a willingness to learn is crucial.

  • Ability to work on several tasks at any one time.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a small team.
  • Competent user of Microsoft Office, including Excel.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience of using databases including data entry and report running.
