Senior Electronics Engineer

Atkinson Moss Engineering have been engaged to assist our industry leading client with the appointment of Senior Electronics Engineer to join their growing Engineering team.

Reporting to the Lead Electronics Engineer, you will bring your experience and expertise to join a 'growth' business, that has sound investement not only in its business but within its team of employee's.

Location: Norwich Onsite working (Monday to Friday 08.30-17.00)

  • Collaborate with the Engineering team to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget. Assist the lead electronics engineer with project timelines, budgets, and resource needs.
  • Coordinate with the firmware team to ensure adherence to company coding standards and alignment of resources to meet project functional requirements.
  • Design AC/DC converters for low voltage battery charging according to specifications. Manage the design process from concept schematic to manufacturing and certification using company procedures.
  • Oversee all manufacturing processes for AC/DC designs, including FMEA, DFM/DFA, and verification and validation plans/reports.
  • Conduct feasibility studies for new technical innovations.
  • Support test engineers with necessary testing. Develop, test, and verify designs against specifications, write comprehensive test plans and reports before testing.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the standard design process.

Accountabilities

  • Ensure company standards for hardware designs are met, both regulatory and practice, in designs and design methodology.
  • Manage power electronics development for AC/DC converters and their application to battery charging and motor controllers.
  • Ensure project deliverables are met according to plans, assess resource needs for work packages, and communicate issues or updates to the leadership team.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and orderly environment in line with HSE principles.

Qualifications

  • Degree in an engineering-related discipline or relevant experience/qualification.
  • Ideally working towards or achieved chartered status or equivalent as part of personal development.

Essential Experience

  • Experience in an engineering or manufacturing organization.
  • Working experience with full-bridge, push-pull, and forward isolated converters for inverter and battery charging systems (2-5kW+ single phase). Good experience with LLC converters, PFC, and input filtering.
  • Experience with various battery chemistries (Li-ion, Lifepo4, Lead Acid).
  • Simulation experience of complex circuitry using programs such as Simulink, Matlab, Simetrix, or LTSpice.
  • Experience using Electronics CAD Software (Preferred: Altium).
  • Understanding of thermal management requirements for electronics and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams for thermal design solutions.
  • Experience in a product development environment, familiar with NPI, PDR, CDR, FAI, and V&V.
  • In-depth knowledge of both theoretical and practical aspects of electronic engineering.
  • Understanding of firmware design and control considerations for developing hardware that interfaces with a programmable block.
  • Experience in analog design for current and voltage sensing systems and general signal conditioning.
  • Experience in EMC compliance and design considerations.

Preferred Experience

  • Working experience with additional AC/DC topologies, such as flyback.
  • Experience with 3-phase AC to DC systems.
  • Experience with bidirectional AC/DC systems.
  • Hands-on experience designing own magnetics, with an understanding of proximity losses, skin effect losses, core losses, and material properties in ferromagnetic materials.
  • Experience with control loop theory and the ability to evaluate system requirements, simulate, and develop control algorithms.
