Myn is excited to recruit a Site Manager on behalf of a local authority.

Main Purpose of Position:

To manage and oversee all site works, including preparing sites prior to the commencement of construction work, planning projects, and ensuring that they meet agreed specifications, budgets, and timescales.

The jobholder will play an important role in ensuring that the organisation meets its construction requirements while contributing to the achievement of its aims and operational objectives.

As a Site Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Preparing multiple sites prior to the commencement of construction work, setting out the site and organising facilities.
  • Planning and controlling the day-to-day operation of the team and contracted staff to ensure project deadlines are met.
  • Managing and directing supervisors and tradespersons, advising on technical matters as required, and ensuring that all local arrangements have been made to enable the works to be carried out with materials readily available.
  • Managing all aspects of health and safety for each project, identifying training needs, and implementing modern building techniques and practices.
  • Planning projects to ensure that they meet agreed specifications, budgets, and timescales while overseeing building work.
  • Assigning and allocating work, motivating the team to ensure all works are completed within the prescribed time, and maximising labour resources to achieve output levels; recording all holidays and sickness in the appointment diary.
  • Reading and understanding building plans, carrying out works using best practices while fully complying with building regulations.
  • Liaising with clients and reporting progress to professional staff (such as architects, building control, and surveyors) as well as the public; meeting with subcontractors.
  • Making safety inspections to ensure construction and site safety, carrying out regular and random inspections on works in progress, including working at heights and scaffold use, to confirm quality and progress are acceptable and that all targets are being met.
  • Checking the quality of work and materials used, initiating any remedial work where specified standards have not been met, and providing direction and guidance to contractors or subcontractors as required.
  • Checking and preparing site reports, designs, and drawings. Authorising all stores and purchase requests, ensuring that materials are purchased, and that stock is managed and monitored effectively in accordance with defined procedures.
  • Undertaking problem-solving by addressing issues and identifying defects, making recommendations for action. Completing risk assessments and method statements prior to the commencement of works.
  • Monitoring employee/team performance and sickness against an agreed standard and taking remedial action as necessary, including carrying out the first stage of formal disciplinary procedures when required.

Skills and Experience:

  • Demonstrable experience in building maintenance and construction, including working with schedules of rates and specifications, as well as the allocation of labour and materials.
  • Ability to manage, control, plan, and organise human and material resources to ensure outputs, standards, targets, and deadlines are met.
  • Ability to interpret written requests and construction drawings, producing specifications, drawings, estimates, technical reports, and providing advice where necessary in compliance with policy and procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to engage politely with a range of people, including contractors and customers.
  • Demonstrable understanding of the building industry and awareness of commercial aspects.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulatory and legislative requirements, including health and safety.
  • A recognised building trade qualification, e.g., City & Guilds in a recognised building trade.
  • Flexibility to attend meetings, sites, and venues as required throughout the UK, undertaking work outside normal office hours, including weekends, and able to respond to emergencies outside of normal office hours.
