Our client is a leading independent bridging finance provider based in the United Kingdom. With a strong presence in the market, they specialise in offering fast and flexible bridging loans and buy-to-let mortgages to our valued intermediaries and clients.

The purpose of the In-House Lawyer role is to play a central role in safeguarding the legal integrity of the operations while contributing to strategic growth. Working closely with the General Counsel, you will be responsible for a diverse range of legal matters, including transactional work, recoveries, litigation, and compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with our General Counsel and Legal Team on various legal matters.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of legal strategies to support business objectives.
  • Act as a key contributor to the overall legal function, participating in strategic decision-making processes.
  • Interact with a range of London law firms, managing relationships and ensuring the institution's interests are effectively represented.
  • Challenge and defend the best interests of the business in legal discussions and negotiations.
  • Ensure that the business's lending practices align with regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct thorough legal due diligence on potential lending transactions.
  • Identify and assess legal risks associated with lending transactions, proposing and implementing effective risk mitigation strategies.
  • Provide guidance to internal teams on legal and regulatory compliance matters.
  • Stay informed about changes in relevant laws and regulations affecting the lending industry.
  • Lead and manage a broad spectrum of transactional matters, focusing on bridging loans and buy-to-let mortgages.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate intricate legal documents, ensuring they align with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Work with internal stakeholders to structure and execute transactions efficiently, contributing to the success of our lending activities.
  • Manage and, when necessary, lead litigation efforts related to lending activities, collaborating closely with external counsel.
  • Assist with the Recoveries and Collection team, working strategically to safeguard the business's interests in cases of default.

Role Requirements:

  • 5+ years of post-qualification experience in lending, with a strong emphasis on real estate finance.
  • Proven track record of representing lenders and/or borrowers in complex transactions.
  • Proactive mindset, capable of identifying legal risks and proposing strategic solutions.
  • Qualified Solicitor in the UK & Wales.
  • Strong team player with a keen attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking abilities and a commercial mindset.
