Financial Accountant

We are seeking a Financial Accountant to join our clients Finance Division. This role is crucial for maintaining detailed financial accounts and ensuring compliance with both local and international financial reporting standards. The successful candidate will be responsible for a wide range of financial duties including reporting, analysis, accounting, reconciliation, and year-end audit processes.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide detailed financial accounts and information for University reports and statutory returns, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Prepare and publish accurate Financial Management Information (FMI) for informed decision-making.
  • Ensure all financial reporting adheres to local and international standards, maintaining compliance.
  • Conduct detailed variance analysis on financial accounts, identifying discrepancies and providing corrective actions.
  • Prepare schedules for monthly management accounts, focusing on Fixed Assets, Inventory, and General Ledger accounts.
  • Ensure the accuracy and substantiation of balance sheet codes, reconciling sub-ledgers with the general ledger and resolving discrepancies.
  • Prepare comprehensive information for external auditors, ensuring compliance with audit requirements and standards.
  • Oversee the operation of financial modules, manage the helpdesk, and implement system enhancements.
  • Promote best practices in technical accounting, identify process improvements, and lead continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide cover for other areas within Central and Research Accounting, fostering strong relationships with stakeholders and ensuring continuity in financial operations.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Professional qualification in finance or accounting.
  • Proven experience in financial reporting, analysis, and reconciliation.
  • Strong knowledge of local and international financial reporting standards.
  • Proficiency in financial systems and databases.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
