Job Title: Lead Data Scientist (AI)

Our client, a large public sector organisation based in London, is looking for an immediately available Lead Data Scientist (AI) for a 7 month contract.
The role sits within the Artificial Intelligence team and as Lead Data Scientist you will be supporting the team including principal technologists, engagement leads and a delivery manager to:
- Support the delivery of the 10-year intent and strategy for your team in the adoption of AI across the Public Sector
- Document best practice through the intricate realms of Natural Language Processing and Understanding (NLP/NLU), machine learning, and experimental design.
- Identify efficient and effective ways to use advanced analytics, data science and automation to tackle business and organisational challenges.
- Steer technical teams in data-driven projects in tandem with delivery and product managers, delineating project scopes and using your time efficiently. Ensure that projects not only provide technical solutions but also deliver business value.
- Act as a digital ambassador, sponsoring AI/ML adoption, best practices, and collaboration and help upskill others in wider AI adoption
The successful candidate will possess the following:
- experience in data science, and machine learning
- understanding of AI algorithms and their use cases
- understanding of the data processing pipeline
- knowledge of retrieval augmented generation, and fine-tuning
- understanding of data pipelines and their unique versioning requirements.
- deep knowledge of evaluation metrics and test metrics
- deep knowledge of LLMs, GenAI, and Foundation Models in general
- understanding of the short and medium term developments in AI/ML.
- understanding of LLM vulnerabilities, safeguards, guardrails, and security.
- experience with profiling and performance optimisation of AI/ML systems.
