  • *About the Role**:

We are currently seeking a dedicated and experienced Laboratory Team Leader to oversee our Microbiological Food Testing at our UKAS approved site in Carlisle. The successful candidate will lead a team of laboratory professionals in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, with a focus on ensuring the highest standards of quality and safety in food products. With a hands-on approach, you will foster a culture of excellence and continuous improvement within the team, ensuring all operational goals and targets are met.

  • *Key Responsibilities**:
  • Manage and coordinate a team of laboratory technicians to conduct accurate and timely microbiological testing on food products.
  • Ensure adherence to UKAS standards, laboratory protocols, and safety regulations.
  • Develop and implement efficient shift patterns to maximise productivity and maintain high-quality results.
  • Manage resources effectively, including the scheduling of personnel and the procurement of laboratory supplies.
  • Monitor testing processes and results, taking corrective actions when necessary to maintain the integrity of the data.
  • Keep up with advancements in microbiological testing and food safety standards to maintain a state-of-the-art laboratory environment.
  • *Requirements**:
  • Proven experience as a team leader or supervisor in a laboratory setting, with a preference for those with experience in a food manufacturing/lab environment.
  • A degree in microbiology, food science, or a related field is preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of food safety, microbiological testing methods, and UKAS accreditation standards.
  • Excellent organisational and leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a team.
  • Experience working in a rotating shift pattern and the flexibility to adapt to changing work schedules.
