**Local Authority Designated Officer

Wirral Council require a Local Authority Designated Officer. The Lead Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) will be responsible for ensuring that the company fulfils its obligations for managing allegations against staff and volunteers working with children in any setting within the Wirral area and is compliant with legislation and local procedures.

**Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Act as the lead for all allegations against professionals who work with children, to chair meetings as required and provide management and scrutiny of all cases to closure. Attend and advise at all relevant strategy meetings.
  • Ensure all organisations understand and discharge their statutory responsibilities in regard to the reporting and managing of allegations, including understanding the role of the Local Authority Designated Officer for Allegations (LADO) and provide critical review, evaluation and approval to safeguarding investigations on behalf of Children's Services.
  • Advise Wirral Safeguarding Children's Partnership (WSCP) members, Local Authority Strategic Managers and Senior Managers within the wider children's workforce on policy issues and make recommendations for decision making relating to statutory duties regarding the oversight and management of allegations.
  • Establish positive relationships with key partners and provide expert consultations including strategic and operational advice regarding the implementation of local and national policies. Ensuring responses to allegations are dealt with fairly, consistently and expeditiously across all service areas, working positively and effectively in partnership with all stakeholders and partner agencies.
  • Prepare performance reports for the WSCP and present to Senior Management Team, local authority Children's Services and elected members.

**Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Social work qualification
  • Social Work England registration
  • Proven experience as a LADO or demonstrable commitment to children's safeguarding
  • Experience of undertaking investigation work or managing allegations
