Mechanical Design Engineer

Our client is looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer, with experience in designing conveyor systems. The business are looking to expand over the next 12 months so this is a great time to join a forward thinking business.

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, your role will entail:

  • Carry out mechanical design to meet business and customer specified requirements.
  • Provide a high level of commercial awareness to ensure design solutions are delivered cost-effectively and scope changes are managed per standard operating procedures.
  • Manage workload to meet objectives and understand schedules.
  • Communicate project status effectively to the Technical Director/Head of Engineering/Technical lead.
  • Produce mechanical designs from concept to production drawings in line with customer needs and business objectives.
  • Support specific projects to ensure timescales and budget requirements are achieved.
  • Utilize third-party/supplier software to calculate specific requirements.
  • Implement company and external standards.
  • Input data into the company's database.
  • Understand and apply BS/ISO standards.
  • Check work done by others.
  • Conduct risk assessments of machinery.
  • Provide expert input to ensure the most economical/advantageous design strategy through collaboration.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities and tasks as required.
  • Ensure innovative processes are implemented.

Key skills required for this Mechanical Design Engineer position:

  • Good understanding of mechanical engineering principles.
  • Competent and confident in all technical aspects of mechanical design and development of special-purpose machinery.
  • Experience in delivering solutions to technical problems.
  • Experience in undertaking technical calculations.
  • Experience working within a multi-skilled environment (mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical components).
  • Experience in technical projects, including working to tight timescales throughout the project lifecycle.
  • 2D CAD design experience (AutoCAD) desirable.
  • 3D CAD design experience (SolidWorks) essential.
  • Ability to provide quality information within deadlines.
  • Empathy with other functions and projects.
  • Proactive interaction with other functions.
  • Team player and ability to work on own initiative.
  • Strong PC skills.

  • £40,000 - £50,000
  • 25 days plus bank holidays

  • 7:30 - 4pm Monday - Friday
