Would you like to use them to support Refugees and Asylum Seekers in the Darlington area?

Could you offer us 5-10 hours a week and attend c14 evening meetings per year?

If so, we want to hear from you.

At Darlington Assistance of Refugees we care passionately that everyone who seeks sanctuary in this country deserves to be welcomed, treated with dignity and supported in navigating life in the UK. What makes us different is that every one of our members is a volunteer. With around 75 active volunteers involved in mentoring, teaching English, providing guidance, fundraising and campaigning, you can imagine the financial challenges that presents. That's why we're now looking for an experienced Treasurer.

What's involved?

  • Maintaining accurate financial records and producing regular reports and accounts
  • Implementing and monitoring financial procedures, ensuring statutory compliance
  • Managing the organisation's bank accounts, donations and petty cash
  • Paying invoices in a timely manner
  • Ensuring consistent compliance with DAR procedures
  • Advising the Trustees on financial matters

In addition, as a member of the Trustee Board

  • Ensuring the organisation complies with its governing document, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations.
  • Supporting the organisation to pursue its objects as defined in its governing document.
  • Supporting the Executive Committee with key decisions relating to finance and charity activities
  • Being an ambassador for the charity, supporting its goals in aiding Refugees and Asylum Seekers and lobbying relevant bodies when required

What skills do you need?

  • Experience of managing a Finance function or operating at a senior level in a Finance capacity
  • Leadership skills gained at a senior level in a commercial business or charity
  • Good written and spoken English
  • Collaborative, supportive and persuasive
  • The ability to influence at a high level
  • Approachable and sensitive to the feelings of others

We are particularly interested in receiving applications from those who have had experience as refugees or asylum seekers
