Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities of the Learning Support and Teaching Assistant

  • Support learners individually or in groups, reinforcing lessons and providing additional assistance where needed.
  • Assist in lesson planning and development of learning materials to meet curriculum requirements and individual learner needs.
  • Collaborate with lecturers/instructors to prepare resources and deliver engaging lessons.
  • Provide personalized learning support based on initial assessments and prior learning.
  • Offer regular feedback to learners to guide their improvement.
  • Monitor learner progress on IT platforms and maintain accurate records.
  • Develop learners' personal, English, maths, and digital skills for success in society and the workplace.
  • Provide learner information for progress reviews and support processes.
  • Liaise with Apprenticeship Development Coaches/Apprenticeship Officers for effective learner support.
  • Offer guidance on career progression opportunities.
  • Facilitate aspects of the induction program and provide class cover when necessary.
  • Ensure a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment, adhering to safeguarding policies.
  • Promote health and safety compliance among learners.

Knowledge and Experience: required for the Learning Support and Teaching Assistant

  • Experience supporting learners with additional needs in an educational setting
  • English and maths qualifications at level 2 or above
  • Educated to level 3 or above
  • Excellent IT skills, including Office 365 Word and Excel
  • Ideally hold a Teachers award or willingness to work towards relevant teaching qualifications (achieved within 9 months)
  • Ability to motivate and support learners to overcome barriers to learning
  • Ideally holds an Assessors Award and have experience with Apprenticeship delivery
