Modern Technician Apprentice

North Lanarkshire Council is one of the 32 local authorities of Scotland, covering the North Lanarkshire council area. Overview:

To assist in the inspection, maintenance and first line repairs on non-leased ICT equipment. Support deployment and disposal routes for ICT equipment. Duties will include maintaining appropriate records and systems for the efficient functioning of ICT equipment. Support requirements will be recorded through the service desk.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in providing support and advice to staff in the operation of ICT equipment
  • Assist in the procurement of ICT resources
  • Assist with day-to-day operation of ICT equipment owned by the authority
  • Assist in the triage, and report through service desk, issues supported by service desk resolver groups i.e., enterprise solutions, infrastructure and security, providing first line support
  • Assist in the maintenance and repair all ICT hardware equipment, escalating repairs to internal or external agencies as required
  • Assist in the installation of software and upgrades
  • Assist in the maintenance appropriate records of ICT equipment - asset register, software licence, service desk records etc
  • Liaise with service users and peers to ascertain ICT support requirements following a continuous improvement practice
  • Assist in carrying out essential testing and pro-active monitoring of all IT resources, in particular Electrical Safety Testing as directed by the line manager
  • Ensure that chemicals and hazardous waste materials are stored effectively and disposed of safely
  • Assist in providing technician support to other departments as requested by the line manager
  • Assist in providing advice to service users
  • Participate in all apprenticeship related programmes including course of study
  • Any other duties in consultation with the line manager

Desirable skills:

  • A previous qualification in an IT related to subject at either Higher, NC, NQ or HNC/D level

Salary:

£16,000 per annum

Working hours:

37.5 hours per week, 8.45am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday (45 minute lunch break)
