Stoke on Trent City Council is seeking a Social Worker for its Leaving Care team.

Please see details below:

  • To support the delivery of high-quality social care activities within Early Intervention & Children's Social Care through the provision of direct support work to young people in the care of the local authority and young people leaving care.
  • To work in partnership with young people preparing then to make the transition from public care, their carers and relevant agencies to deliver an effective, integrated holistic, Personal Adviser and Leaving Care Service
  • To promote young people's physical, emotional and social welfare; promoting their capacity to take responsibility for themselves and to act responsible towards others; promoting welfare: ensuring that needs relating to religious persuasion, racial origin, gender and cultural and linguistic background are actively identified and met.
  • Stoke on Trent has been voted as one of the friendliest places in the UK
  • We are a very small geographical area and cover locality basis therefore travelling between visits, once in Stoke is extremely limited in terms of mileage
  • Opportunities to become a ‘champion' in various different areas of practice and development
  • Secured funding for ‘family hubs' and have been rolling these out across the city creating a fantastic early help offer including parenting programmes, confidence building courses, adult learning offer, food banks and charitable support plus much more
  • We have a strong management team and also senior managers who are very supported
  • Free parking via our critical user parking permit for various car parks across the city, including parking on the multi-deck car park next to the office
  • Our culture is very much based upon team work, supporting each other and working together with our multi-agency professionals, this is emphasised by our locality working and strong working relationships
  • In terms of management team – supervision is completed with social workers every 4 weeks (both case supervision and personal supervision), this is completed 1-1 by the team manager. In addition to that, we have team meetings at least once per fortnight and group supervision, guest speakers and peer review is part of these meetings on rotation. We also have full service meetings, learning sessions and team away days throughout the year. Team managers are always contactable, visible and approachable, as is our service manager, we are office based at least 3 days per week with a duty manager available to respond to crisis daily (in the event a social worker couldn't get hold of their own manager).

Requirements of the role:

  • Qualified Social Worker
  • Fully Social Work England registered
  • Must have significant post-qualified experience in Children's Social Care ideally with some specialist knowledge of children in care and/or children leaving care
