Library Assistants

We have a fantastic opportunity for Two Library Assistants at Manchester City Council, this is a full-time temporary role for the next 2 months, with the possibility of extension.

What is the role?

Manchester City Council are looking for two Library Assistants, to undertake general library duties which include shelving, straightening, customer service, and covering service points. You will undertake a range of tasks and routine operations necessary to provide a quality customer service and will ensure the security of facilities, materials and other resources.

What are your responsibilities?

  • Deal efficiently and courteously with enquiries from members of the public providing effective and accurate information and advice on a range of council services, escalating queries where appropriate.
  • Use a range of equipment to undertake duties, ensuring that the local environment is effectively and efficiently utilised and maintained.
  • Undertake duties in a safe and responsible manner, in accordance with established health and safety requirements, legislation and City Council policies, practices and procedures.
  • Work in partnership with external agencies, organisations and other city council services to deliver a wide range of services.
  • Showing round all customers, and service users to promote all services that the library has to offer.
  • Updating customer accounts, with books returned and new books they wish to use/borrow from the library.
  • Putting books back in the correct shelves, including tidying up and straightening the books.
  • Keeping areas clean and tidy for all customers to use and enjoy.

What skills do you Need?

  • Must have recent experience of working as a Library Assistant, alternatively must have good customer service experience.
  • Excellent people skills, as you will be speaking to the public, other members of staff and managers.
  • Strong IT Skills, as you will using Microsoft Office including internal council IT systems
  • Working Full time 35 hours a week, including late shifts 12.30pm – 20.00pm and some Saturday working as well.
