Interim Financial Controller - Potential temp to perm

I'm delighted to be working exclusively with a long-standing client, supporting with an immediate need for a qualified interim Financial Controller/Accountant to support in the transition from the current member of staff (outgoing in mid-July) to the new permanent member of staff (this could also be you!)

Role duration: 4-6 months depending on notice periods

Salary: Permanent equivalent £55,000-60,000 - Day rate £250-375 depending on experience (umbrella)

About the company

My client is a market leading manufacturer and distributor of a specialist, niche product, based in North-East Derbyshire.

The organisation are a fairly complex structure, whilst your role will report directly to the European finance lead at Group, based overseas, alongside dotted line into the overseas Group Shared Service Centre.

You'll be employed directly by the overseas ownership group, acting as UK no.1 for the UK arm of the global business, alongside 2 small UK subsidiaries (combined t/o c.£25m).

About the role

You will be joining the organisation in a key role, overseeing all things UK Finance for the 3 business entities. The role is a varied role, combining minimal statutory reporting with key operational/month end reporting, working closely with the oversees SSC to ensure accuracy.

Line managing an established team of 5 autonomous and competent transactional staff, you will be a key link between group and UK Finance Operations, undertaking a busy, fast-paced role looking after the typical day to day finance responsibilities including budget prep, month end etc, ensuring accuracy and smooth processing of information for the business units, partnering with key stakeholders in both the UK and oversees.

Some key responsibilities include

  1. Point of contact for all finance related items for the local management but also for the consolidation team of Group.
  2. Ensure the correct presentation of the numbers in order to be used as the perfect basis for both internal and external reporting
  3. Understand financial KPI's (profitability, Opex, Capex, working capital, cash flow,...);
  4. Understand financial aspects of an international environment sometimes combined with a manufacturing organisation;
  5. Being able to see trends in numbers and show the ability to analyse them;
  6. Responsible for the monthly closing process respecting the group accounting principles and in line with IFRS and local GAAP;
  7. Good understanding of all numbers in an IFRS constellation;
  8. Being able to reconcile transactional data and management reporting;
  9. Identify potential risks and propose solutions;
  10. Analyse balance sheet and result accounts with attention to detail and accuracy;
  11. Inform management on trends;
  12. Point of contact for local tax authorities;
  13. Prepare and file local annual accounts;
  14. Prepare and file local tax declarations (corporate and others);
  15. Point of contact for internal and external audit;
  16. Finance representative in ad hoc projects;
  17. Ensure compliance with internal and external guidelines and legislation;
  18. Direct and indirect management of a team of people within the UK;
  19. Close cooperation with European SSC, stakeholders, management, audit teams, finance partners, middle office;

About you

  • Able to start in the next 2 weeks to allow for suitable handover
  • Qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) with strong post-qualification experience
  • Experience in working in a complex matrix organisation;
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written (particularly cross-border/internationally)
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 (Excel and Visual Basic) & SAP (transactional and Business Warehouse)
  • Solid knowledge of systems and processes
  • Ability to develop and implement new procedures or to adapt existing procedures to meet the specialised needs
  • Take end-to-end ownership within domain and also take indirect leadership
  • Strong analytical skills and strong problem solving experience
  • Competent people manager and team player
