Indirect Tax Senior Manager

Reporting to the Global Indirect Tax leader, you will be responsible for assisting in the delivery and execution of indirect tax advice across the UK, LATAM and India regions.

ROLE SUMMARY:

In this position, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the indirect tax affairs of the organisation with primary focus on the UK, a critical market for the Group. As subject matter expert you will act as a proactive business partner on UK Indirect taxes ensuring that the Group's tax strategy is embedded in everything that we do and assist in managing risks within other regions the Group operates in.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:

  • Provide strategic support to Global Indirect Tax Leader, offering guidance, technical inputs and direction.
  • Provide practical and commercially orientated indirect tax advice on projects and transactions undertaken by the Group within region. The focus is primarily on VAT but encompasses all other indirect taxes (e.g., Customs duties).
  • Build and maintain relationships with relevant business partners to ensure timely communications regarding any transactions that may have tax compliance consequences.
  • Support and guide the indirect tax reporting team in our Tax Centre of Excellence (Tax CoE) with compliance advisory matters to ensure VAT compliance, (including review of UK VAT returns, identifying risks, implementing controls, minimising VAT liabilities and compliance issues and identifying improvement areas).
  • Review UK Partial Exemption Methodology and continually ensure appropriateness.
  • Lead role in relationship with HMRC.
  • Partner with other tax colleagues (transfer pricing, direct tax) as well as cross functionally with commercial, finance, treasury, legal teams and other external advisers to ensure the indirect tax impact is considered when implementing projects and initiatives.
  • Prepare documentation and analysis on critical indirect tax positions and decisions made. Including the analysis of positions taken in respect of potential tax reserves for agreement with the Group's auditors.
  • Lead in the documentation and management of Group indirect tax policy.
  • Monitor and manage indirect legislation and its applicability to the Group, ensuring where relevant that the business is kept up to date and that the Group takes appropriate action to remain compliant.
  • Leading role in managing indirect tax relationships with tax authorities, advisers, and business partners.
  • Maintain excellent technical knowledge of indirect tax issues within the financial services/fintech sector and develop good commercial understanding of the industry to assist in delivering VAT training to the wider business, commercial and finance colleagues.
  • Partnering with the Tax COE to manage VAT/GST tax audits/enquires raised by tax authorities.
  • Assisting with statutory audits in relation to indirect tax.
  • Collaborating closely with third party advisors, as required.
  • Manage LATAM and India indirect tax matters remotely with support of local personnel and advisors.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

  • Accredited ACA, CTA or equivalent Qualified Accountant.
  • Excellent technical ability and understanding of the UK VAT regime.
  • Experience in successfully managing HMRC relationships, UK Business Risk Reviews and Partial exemption negotiations.
  • Experience in strategic VAT matters and ability to demonstrate positive impact to business.
  • Exposure to taxes outside EMEA advantageous (e.g. LATAM, India)
  • Strong interpersonal skills to foster working relationships with various stakeholders and communicate effectively with a cross-section of the business at all levels.
  • Drive to take ownership and responsibility for own work and operate independently whilst also demonstrating the ability to work well in a team.
  • Proactive, strong organisational skills and ability to prioritise multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work in a fast-moving environment and manage other Indirect Matters (e.g. LATAM, India) remotely.
