AWS Database Engineer

Hays' client is a major public sector organisation based in Edinburgh. This organisation is looking for an experienced AWS database engineer to join their dedicated database development team.

The main purpose of this role is to accelerate the client's migration from on-prem databases to new AWS-based solutions.

Main outcomes and objectives include:

  • Major version upgrade of the current on-prem MongoDB estate
  • Major version upgrades to multiple on-prem Postgres databases
  • Support development teams with on-prem migrations to AWS RDS
  • Help migrate current on-prem Grafana instance to containers deployed on Openshift
  • Support the database tea, with ongoing BAU tasks such as upgrading, patching, automation, and monitoring improvements etc
  • Help fixing the Support Requests raised by the organisation's stakeholders

What you'll need to succeed

The following skills and experience are essential for this role:

  • Ansible
  • CDK and AWS development tools including CloudFormation
  • OpenSearch/Elasticsearch
  • AWS IAM, S3, EC2, RDS
  • MongoDB
  • Postgres
  • SQL
  • Monitoring solutions e.g., CloudWatch, Grafana

The following skills and experience are desirable for this role:

  • Informix
  • Oracle
  • Serverless (Lambda)
  • Typescript
