Mental Health Support Worker- Horsham

Engage Education are currently working in partnership with an all through school on an exciting new SEND TA position specifically to support learners with SEMH in the Horsham area.

Starting immediately, the school is looking for an outstanding SEND Teaching Assistant to join them on a long term temporary basis. If the role goes well there is the potential for this to turn into a permanent assignment.

This is supporting learners with SEMH (Social and Emotional Mental Health) needs.

Due to the location of this school, the ideal candidate will need to be a driver with access to their own vehicle. There are unfortunately no public transport links to this site, so this is necessary.

Your Role:

  • Supporting learners on a one-to-one basis often with complex learning needs
  • Working with other support staff to engage pupils in class
  • Providing feedback to teachers and parents

The School:

This role is for a small and friendly school, who work hard to create a calm environment for their students, with access to personalised learning for all.

The students range from ages 7-18 years old, all with social, emotional or mental health (SEMH) needs. They also have a nurture class for students with ASC.

The successful candidate will work to support teachers, alongside other support staff and therapists, to help nurture a therapeutic environment and deliver the curriculum.

Many of their students arrive at the school having had some form of disruption to their education, as well as many having significant gaps in their learning, being reluctant readers/writers and having a range of emotional barriers to their learning.

This is why it's essential to find the right members of staff who can help reengage the students so they can achieve their full potential.

What you will need:

  • A range of behaviour management techniques
  • To have worked with learners with a range of needs
  • The ability to engage a young person in learning through a range of methods
  • To be able to commit to working at the school for long period of time
  • A resilient attitude
