Director of People

We are seeking a dynamic and visionary Director of People to join our senior leadership team within the People and Culture Department at NHS North East London. NHS NEL works with North East London Integrated Care System along with our health, social care, voluntary and community partners and residents to plan and buy health services to meet our population's needs, making sure all parts of the local health and care system work effectively together. This pivotal role involves shaping the future of health and social care by leading our Human Resources (HR) functions and will ensure our organisation is supported by highly capable and professional HR services that are customer-focused and provide value for money.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership of HR Function: Oversee and lead a high-performing, customer-focused HR function in line with the NHS People Plan, fostering innovation and best practices to ensure a robust, resilient service.
  • Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI): Embed EDI into all workforce policies and practices, provide leadership on EDI initiatives, and work closely with staff networks to understand and improve the lived experiences of all employees.
  • Talent Management: Establish NHS NEL as an exemplar employer by attracting, recruiting, retaining, and developing high-calibre individuals, implementing leading-edge people management practices.
  • Leadership Development: Create and oversee leadership and management learning programmes, supporting the organisation's statutory functions and enabling all employees to thrive.
  • Strategic People Planning: Develop and implement the ICB People Plan, advising on the people elements of business planning and ensuring alignment with long-term strategic goals.

The successful candidate must provide expert guidance on a wide range of technical HR issues, including workforce planning, analytics, and change management. They will be an innovative leader with extensive previous experience in a senior HR leadership role, with a proven track record in developing and implementing HR strategies. A strong leader with exceptional team management skills and a solid understanding of EDI principles and practices is also imperative.
