About the School:

It is dynamic and inclusive mainstream primary school dedicated to fostering a supportive learning environment for all students. They are currently seeking an experienced and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join their friendly team. This role focuses on working with children in a KS1 classroom, particularly those who are non-verbal or on the autism spectrum.

Role Overview:

As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will be integral in providing tailored support to children with special educational needs, ensuring they have access to the curriculum and can thrive in the classroom. Your expertise in PECS, Makaton, Sensory Methods, and Phonics will be highly valued as you work closely with children, helping them overcome challenges and achieve their potential.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide one-on-one and small group support to non-verbal children and those with autism in a KS1 classroom.
Implement and utilise PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System) and Makaton to support communication development.
Apply sensory methods and techniques to create an engaging and accessible learning environment.
Assist the class teacher in adapting lesson plans and materials to meet the individual needs of children with SEN.
Support the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and monitor the progress of children with SEN.
Promote the social, emotional, and academic development of children through tailored support strategies.
Collaborate with the SENCO, class teacher, and other staff members to develop and implement effective support plans.
Maintain accurate records of support provided and communicate effectively with parents and caregivers about their child's progress.
Participate in relevant training and professional development opportunities to stay updated on best practices in SEN support.

Requirements:

Previous experience working with children with special educational needs, particularly non-verbal children and those on the autism spectrum, is essential.
Proficiency in PECS and Makaton, along with experience using sensory methods and phonics, is highly desired.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with children, staff, and parents.
Patience, empathy, and a flexible approach to meeting the diverse needs of children with SEN.
Relevant qualifications in education, child development, or a related field are desirable.
