Assistant Rural Surveyor

Our client are seeking an ambitious individual to join their Rural and Agricultural Department as a Trainee Surveyor. The ideal candidate will have some professional experience and be actively working towards their Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) to become a member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).

This role involves providing professional advice and services to clients in the rural and agricultural property sector, focusing on valuation, land sales, utilities, grant schemes and land use matters. This will provide you a wide range of 'on the ground' training and experiences to assist you in passing your APC.

The company are a multi-disciplinary Property Consultancy Firm with multiple offices in Surrey area, providing you with the opportunity of working alongside their existing team of Surveyors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in conducting valuations of rural and agricultural properties, including farms, estates and land for various purposes such as a sale, purchase, taxation, secured lending and Expert Reports for Court proceedings.
  • Provide support in the sale and marketing of agricultural land, farms and estates.
  • Provide professional advice to clients on matters related to rural property, including tenancy agreements, succession planning, and diversification opportunities.
  • Assist in the management of rural properties, including rent reviews and the negotiation of new leases and licenses.
  • Advise on rural planning matters including the potential for development or change of use, new agricultural buildings and to work alongside the Firm's Planning Department.
  • Advise landowners on compulsory purchase projects and, in particular, utility company work.
  • Deal with rural grant applications including CSS & SFI and other emerging schemes and to assist with the emergence of BNG and other Natural Capital Schemes.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for clients, providing clear and concise information and recommendations.
  • Keep abreast of changes in legislation, regulations and market trends affecting the rural and agricultural property sector.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients, colleagues and other professionals in the industry. Contribute to grow and development of the Rural and Agricultural Department including the identification of new business opportunities.

Key Skills

  • RICS accredited Degree and working towards full membership of the RICS via the Rural Practice Pathway.
  • Good understanding of rural and agricultural property matters with experience of rural work.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain complex issues.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to think creatively and find practical solutions to challenges.
  • Proficient in the use of relevant software such as Microsoft Office and property valuation tools.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team with a proactive and flexible approach to work. Excellent time management and organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality work.
  • Willingness to travel to visit properties and meet with clients as required.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying up-to-date with industry trends and best practices.
