Senior Surveyor

Barnsley Council are seeking Senior Surveyors to support the delivery of a strategic property service. This role requires adherence to RICS Valuation – Professional Standards and CIPFA guidelines. The ideal candidate will have a background in local authority or public sector work, with extensive commercial knowledge and experience.
Day to day of the role:
- Conduct land, property, and site visits in compliance with health and safety guidelines.
- Perform inspections, valuations, and measurements of land, and conduct negotiations for leases, tenancies, and easements.
- Investigate queries and complaints and provide responses.
- Handle customer enquiries on land and property matters via phone, in writing, and face-to-face.
- Develop strategies to encourage the growth of small businesses using council assets and to reduce the number of assets held by the council.
- Identify development site opportunities and support developers by de-risking sites.
- Produce statements for representation at Landlord & Tenant Act appeals.
- Assist with corporate and inter-departmental projects, enquiries, and presentations.
- Contribute to the preparation of the asset management plan and other asset guidance.
- Supervise and allocate work to junior staff, students, and external consultants.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Full Membership or Fellowship of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors – General Practice and Valuation (MRICS).
- Experience in local authority/public sector with extensive commercial knowledge.
- Background in either acquisitions and disposals or commercial property management, or both.
