The Role

If yes, then we have an exciting opportunity for you at United Utilities (UU) as a CAD Manager in Warrington, Cheshire.

As CAD manager, you will provide leadership in Computer Aided Design (CAD) to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of project outputs such as drawing production, 3D models and other intelligent design outputs to support the wider UU design team. Using your leadership skills and embracing and promoting innovation, especially with new technologies and/or CAD solutions, you will oversee the UU CAD strategy to ensure that the latest technologies and systems are embedded into the design process, thereby improving the overall efficiency of the design team.

You will be responsible for creating and mentoring your team of engineers, ensuring quality, timeliness and alignment with our organisational vision, sustainability targets and our eco-friendly reputation. You will use your leadership skills to handle dynamic situations and influence strategies across various business contexts and key aspects of our capital programme. You will also collaborate with other experts to tackle challenges unique to our industry and contribute to our success and help UU achieve our goals.

In-person site attendance in Lingley Mere, Warrington is required three days per week to promote the benefits of face-to-face collaboration, alongside some travel to other sites in the North West and flexible hours to support work-life balance. Initially, you may be expected to attend more frequently to familiarise yourselves with the site, the team, and your role.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Strategise and implement CAD standards to enhance design processes and meet UU's digital ambitions.
  • Optimize CAD resource management to ensure budget adherence and timely project delivery.
  • Lead technical support and development for CAD applications, ensuring alignment with industry advancements.
  • Foster strong relationships with internal teams, software vendors, and the information management team.
  • Champion the continuous improvement of CAD procedures, promoting UU's technical leadership in the sector.

Skills and Experience:

To be successful with your application, you'll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:

  • Chartered or Incorporated professional or demonstrable equivalent level of expertise.
  • Detailed working knowledge of CAD systems and technologies, in particular Building Information Modelling (BIM), 3D Modelling, and intelligent Piping and Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID) systems
  • Experience of providing technical advice at a senior level, leading the delivery of successful engineering outcomes in multidisciplinary projects and leading/managing an engineering team
  • Hold a current UK/EU driving licence
