We seek an entrepreneurial, innovative and hands-on Chief Executive with the commercial acumen and strategic vision to lead Newton Abbot Races through its next stage of development. You will build short and long-term business and growth strategy with the small, decisive Board, and lead the team and business operations to maximise assets and revenue.
Newton Abbot Races Ltd is one of the country's leading summer jumps racecourses and a multi-functional events venue, with significant real estate assets, a progressive approach to investment, and strong values. In the heart of Devon and conveniently located alongside the famous A380 'Gateway to the South West' this truly independent racecourse punches well above its weight; a favourite amongst racegoers, owners and trainers, and the local community for its charm, impeccable presentation, friendly staff and legendary food and drink, with South West suppliers providing delicious local produce. In 2024 we will host 18 thrilling racing fixtures between March and October along with a wide range of other events including conferences, country show, classic car and antiques events, and family fun days.
You will have significant and successful leadership experience at a comparable venue, with the widespread skillset required to successfully manage and market a diverse entity with multiple income streams, encompassing horse racing, conferencing, hospitality, and real estate. Strong communication skills will be essential, with the personal presence necessary to represent the company, build relationships, and quickly gain credibility with a wide range of stakeholders in this specialised industry. An interest in horseracing would be desirable but not a prerequisite and we are keen to consider applications from candidates bringing fresh thinking and valuable transferable skills from other industries (sport, venue, stadium, leisure, hospitality).
