We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a child diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) who exhibits challenging behaviour. The successful candidate will work closely with the child to support their educational and social development, ensuring they have a positive and inclusive learning experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 support to a child with ASC, focusing on their individual needs and learning goals.
  • Implement personalised learning plans and behaviour management strategies as directed by the SENCO and class teacher.
  • Assist with the development of social skills and encourage positive interactions with peers.
  • Monitor and record the child's progress, providing regular feedback to the SENCO, class teacher, and parents.
  • Support the child in managing challenging behaviours, using appropriate de-escalation techniques and interventions.
  • Adapt learning materials and activities to suit the child's needs and abilities.
  • Foster a safe and supportive learning environment, promoting the child's well-being and self-esteem.
  • Collaborate with other staff members, external professionals, and parents to ensure a holistic approach to the child's education and care.
  • Attend relevant training and professional development sessions to stay informed about best practices in supporting children with ASC.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Previous experience working with children with ASC and challenging behaviour is essential.
  • A relevant qualification in education, childcare, or special educational needs is desirable.
  • Strong understanding of autism and effective behaviour management strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to promoting inclusion and equality in education.
