Main purpose of position:

The role of Telecare Technician within Assistive Technology Solutions is pivotal in ensuring the safety and security of all tenants residing in communal residencies. The primary responsibility of this role is to proficiently manage and maintain warden call systems, thereby guaranteeing prompt assistance in the event of emergencies.

The post holder must possess a comprehensive understanding of warden call systems, including the ability to code and diagnose technical issues efficiently with TyneTec and their technology. This proficiency will ensure swift response times and optimal functionality of the system. Alongside warden call systems, the role involves fitting smoke alarms, heat alarms, and navigating network wiring structures; tasked with ensuring the seamless integration and operation of these safety mechanisms.

Effective communication is essential in the role, as the post holder will liaises with contractors, managers, and tenants; this will involve booking contractors, managing budgets, and conducting stock audits to maintain adequate supplies for installations. While formal qualifications as an electrician are not mandatory, the post holder must have received training in electrics and possess practical experience in related areas. Strong interpersonal skills are crucial for interacting with stakeholders, facilitating effective collaboration, and ensuring the needs of tenants are met promptly and efficiently.

The post holder will play a vital role in maintaining the safety and wellbeing of residents within communal residencies; through diligent management of warden call systems and effective stakeholder communication, the incumbent ensures a secure living environment for all tenants.

As a Telecare Technician, you will be responsible to:

  • To support the warden call systems across Luton and the wider areas with TyneTec technology, as well as updating telecare equipment that requires renewal.
  • Inform and support the external contractors in the maintenance of Managed Access Systems on sites where such things are in use.
  • Ensure that all work is appointed and completed, utilising a job ticket or mobile technology. Correctly book the appropriate schedule of rate references, variations completion dates and any follow up work when required.
  • Configure and install hardware and software at all sites one will have access to, maintaining an inventory of all resources for insurance and replacement matters.
  • Provide technical advice and assistance to service users, scheme managers and other end users.
  • Ensure that work is carried out in accordance with Health & Safety legislation and ensure the work site is kept clean, tidy and secure.
  • Take material measurements from drawings and site measurements; determine materials and quantities to meet the specifications and to ensure materials are ordered correctly.
  • Appropriately use a range of technological equipment including testing meters.

Skills and Experience:

  • Demonstrable experience of instrument maintenance, as well as maintenance scheduling and support. In addition to an abundance of experience in working with Schedule of Rates, and to specifications
  • Demonstrable experience of utilising Microsoft platforms, such as Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word
  • Demonstrable ability in prioritising workload, whilst being able to provide sound advice and support on instrument related situations
  • Able to identify when discrimination is taking place in service delivery or in the workplace and to take appropriate action where discrimination is identified
  • Health and Safety training in order to visit sites and arrange inspections
  • A pass for an Ordinary National Certificate. A Level 2 National Vocational Qualification or equivalent in an electrical area
  • A Level 3 National Vocational Qualification or equivalent in an electrical area
  • Recent professional development and some experience in putting training into practice
  • A demonstrable ability to work across the borough; along with the availability to occasionally, work out of hours, to meet the demand of the service
