Senior Finance Assistant

Reed Accountancy are currently partnered with an established client in the Crawley area who are seeking an Accounts Payable Assistant to join their team on an initial 6 month contract. As Accounts Payable Assistant you will process and maintain supplier accounts with accuracy and ensure timely payments. The role involves reconciling supplier statements, liaising with suppliers, and assisting with month-end duties. The ideal candidate will have experience in a fast-paced finance environment and be proficient with finance systems.

Day-to-day duties as Accounts Payable assistant:

  • Reconcile supplier statements, request missing documents, and resolve discrepancies.
  • Regularly liaise with suppliers to ensure account accuracy.
  • Distribute unapproved bills reports to responsible employees.
  • Process payment runs, apply manual payments, and produce control files.
  • Raise and resolve posting queries internally and externally.
  • Assist management accountants with month-end duties and accruals reporting.
  • Support bank reconciliation by matching transactions in accounting system.
  • Reconcile USD and Euro bank accounts and post transactions for company credit cards.
  • Handle the distribution of post and provide cover for team members on leave.
  • Post and reconcile direct debit payments, ensuring correct coding to cost centres.
  • Manage the AP mailbox, ensuring emails are sorted and responded to daily.
  • Scan and post bills received by post and accurately post supplier bills to accounting system.
  • Review and resolve Purchase Order discrepancies and manually code bills to correct cost centres.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Experience in a fast-paced finance environment, particularly in Accounts Payable.
  • Previous use of a finance system and good IT skills.
  • Assertiveness with respect for others and commercial awareness.
  • Strong negotiation skills and excellent team communication.
  • Knowledge of accounting treatment for purchase, general ledger, and cash book transactions.
  • General accounting principles and standards.
  • AAT qualification is desirable but not essential.
