SQL Database Administrator

Attwood Perks is proud to be partnering with a highly successful and dynamic business based in Bury St Edmunds who are looking for an experienced SQL Database Administrator to join their technology team on a permanent basis.

As SQL Database Administrator in this collaborative environment you will have an inquisitive mind, be an effective communicator and will consistently strive for high quality database and reporting solutions exhibiting a strong sense of ownership.

You will be involved in the planning and development of the database and reporting suite, as well as troubleshooting any issues on behalf of the users.

This is a key role within an evolving organisation.

Responsibilities:

  • Developing and optimising stored procedures and functions using T-SQL.
  • Defining technical solutions in tandem with Senior IT Stakeholders.
  • Producing new reports in line with Stakeholder requirements while monitoring and amending existing reports.
  • Design, install, configure, and maintain SQL Server databases.
  • Ensure the availability, performance, and security of the databases.
  • Manage database back-up and recovery processes.
  • Monitor database systems to ensure secure services with minimum downtime.
  • Perform capacity planning and storage management.
  • Monitor database performance and tune systems as necessary.
  • Optimise SQL queries and database structures to improve efficiency.
  • Identify and resolve performance issues.
  • Implement and manage database security (e.g. user roles and permissions).
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of database configurations, procedures, and policies.
  • Plan and implement database upgrades and patches.
  • Develop, manage, and test backup and recovery plans.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database and reporting issues, including root cause analysis.
  • Providing input into database strategy, ensuring that implemented systems are in line with overall company strategy.
  • Providing guidance to wider IT and Commercial teams in relation to database maintenance and monitoring.

Ideal Technical Skills:

  • Experience of maintaining and monitoring production SQL Server instances.
  • Proficiency with T-SQL for database maintenance and data manipulation/queries.
  • Knowledge of database performance troubleshooting and optimisation strategies.
  • Knowledge of Disaster Recovery options and experience with their implementations.
  • Proficiency in SQL and database management tools.
  • Strong understanding of database structures, theories, principles, and practices.
  • Familiarity with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
