Cemetery Operative Supervisor

The Cemetery Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of both our cemeteries, ensuring that all activities are conducted in a respectful, efficient, and professional manner. This role involves supervising staff, coordinating burials and other cemetery services, maintaining the cemetery grounds, and interacting with families and the public to provide compassionate support during difficult times.

Key Responsibilities:

Operations Management:

  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of cemetery staff, including groundsmen maintenance workers, and stonemasons
  • Plan and oversee the preparation and maintenance of burial sites, ensuring they meet all legal and company standards.
  • Coordinate and schedule burials, interments, and other services, ensuring all logistical aspects are handled smoothly.
  • Ensure the proper maintenance and appearance of cemetery grounds, including landscaping, monument care, and facility upkeep.

Staff Supervision and Training:

  • Train, and evaluate cemetery staff, providing guidance and support to ensure high performance.
  • Develop and implement training programs for staff on safety procedures, equipment use, and customer service and staff daily schedules.
  • Conduct regular team meetings to communicate updates, address issues, and maintain a cohesive work environment.

Customer Service and Relations:

  • Interact with grieving families with empathy and professionalism, assisting them with burial arrangements and other services.
  • Address and resolve any customer concerns or complaints promptly and sensitively.
  • Provide information to the public regarding cemetery policies, services, and regulations.

Administrative Duties:

  • Maintain accurate records of burials, plot sales, and other cemetery activities.
  • Prepare and manage the cemetery budget, ensuring cost-effective use of resources.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulations pertaining to cemetery operations.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Implement and enforce health and safety protocols to protect staff and visitors.
  • Ensure all equipment is properly maintained and used in accordance with safety guidelines.
  • Stay updated on industry best practices and regulatory changes, adjusting policies and procedures as necessary.

Qualifications:

Experience

  • Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in cemetery operations or a related field, with at least 1 year in a supervisory role.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent organisational and multitasking abilities.
  • Compassionate and effective communication skills.
  • Knowledge of landscaping, grounds maintenance, and safety practices.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Capability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, digging, and operating machinery.

Working Conditions:

  • Availability to work weekends if required, holidays, and be on-call for emergencies as needed.
  • Potential exposure to emotionally distressing situations.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: From £13 per hour

Expected hours: 39 per week
