SEMH Teacher

Empowering Learning are looking for a Functional Skills SEMH Teacher to work in a specialist Alternative Provision in Leicestershire. Experience working in a school setting and experience with SEND pupils is essential. QTS or QTLS is preferred but not essential as attitude, personality are absolutely key. Ability to teach English and Science is essential.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Tutoring or training experience (particularly maths or English)
  • Have the ability to teach secondary age pupils.
  • Knowledge of secondary age curriculum expectations
  • Be highly organised with excellent communication skills
  • Have a desire to work with, inspire and support children from all needs and backgrounds
  • Have excellent behaviour management skills
  • Understand the expectations against the Teachers Standards.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Teaching subjects to KS4 and 5 pupils
  • Planning lessons and activities for whole class learning and group learning.
  • Supporting SEND children with their work in a class setting
  • Managing difficult behaviours and implementing the school behaviour policy
  • Safeguarding vulnerable pupils
  • Possible supervising on lunch and break times
  • Supporting and managing teaching assistants within the classroom
  • Building relationships with staff and pupils
  • Collecting evidence of pupils work to support their assessments
  • Feedback to the relevant member of staff about the pupils progress
  • To have pastoral responsibility for a group of pupils
  • Potentially lead in a subject area
  • Ensure a team approach to education with stakeholders such as parents and carers
