Linux / Unix Engineer
INSIDE IR35
We are working with one of our biggest customers who needs an experienced Linux / Unix Engineer to join them on an initial 6 month contract. The role is hybrid based with 2 days required in the office ideally.
Skills and Experiences Required
- A broad knowledge of UNIX/Linux platforms and operating system fundamentals
- Ability to effectively manage a large server estate via best practice configuration management and large-scale automation
- Understanding of ITIL concepts, including the management of incidents and implementation of change
- Ability to implement and troubleshoot common technologies such as HTTP, HTTPS, LDAP (client and server-side), Samba, FTP, rsync, MQ Series
- In-depth knowledge of TCP/IP networking concepts
- Ability to diagnose network-related faults and performance issues (taking network packet traces with tcp dump and Wireshark, and using them to identify problems)
- Broad understanding of network security, including firewalls (ideally PIX and/or Checkpoint)
- Knowledge of IPSEC VPNs, setup and troubleshooting
- In-depth knowledge of x86 virtualisation (ideally VMware) and the techniques and tools used to manage it effectively
