Finance Assistant

Our client, a dynamic, exciting and supportive single academy Trust in Surrey is seeking an experienced Finance Assistant. Working as part of the Finance team, the Finance Assistant will operate the accounts payable function of the school and assist with other financial duties.

Key responsibilities:

  • To process all accounts payable transactions on the accounting system Sage 50 in accordance with school Financial Procedures
  • To set up new suppliers and maintain supplier details accurately on the Sage accounting system
  • To process purchase orders (POs) raised by departments, gain approval from the DFO and Headteacher as appropriate, add the PO number, and send the POs to the departments to send to the suppliers
  • Order school event catering and other goods and services on-line as required
  • To prepare batches of invoices and upload payments for the weekly BACS payment run.
  • To produce financial reports and analyses as required by the DFO e.g. aged creditor analysis, and ensure all reconciling items are promptly cleared
  • To meet with budget holders as required to answer financial questions and in particular to address questions on spend levels vs. budget
  • To ensure that all accounts payable documents are filed efficiently, and records are easily accessible and suitable for audit.

The successful Finance Assistant will have previous experience in purchase ledger work, ideally within an education setting, coupled with an understanding of debits and credits in accounting. Experience of SAGE 50 or a similar financial package would be desirable.

Educated to GCSE level in Maths & English, you will possess excellent attention to detail, a high level of numeracy together with strong verbal and written communication skills. Experience of computer software, including Excel spreadsheets will be essential. With common sense and a logical approach to problem solving, you will be able to work well as part of a team, to tight deadlines and with good time management.

This is a full-time role, 36 hours per week, term time only role (41 weeks per year). No hybrid working available.
