Psychological Therapist

Job Purpose

To offer comprehensive evidence-based psychological therapy and support service to Merseyside Police Officers and Staff, including individuals who encounter high levels of risk, challenging roles and traumatic incidents.

Knowledge & Experience

It is essential that the post holder is qualified to Diploma level as a psychotherapist/counsellor and is a member of a recognised professional body in order to provide a professional and effective service such as: Diploma in Counselling and/or Cognitive Behavioural Therapy; Accreditation by British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy; Accreditation by British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies.

Must be prepared to complete training as Critical Incident Debrief facilitator.

The post holder must have experience working within the field of psychotherapy/counselling and/or mental health or psychological support to enable them to carry out the role effectively.

Must be able to work independently, taking initiative when necessary.

It is essential that the post holder is able to organise and prioritise a constantly changing workload.

Good communication skills, both written and oral, presentational skills with a professional approach to customers and management are essential.

The post holder must be committed to maintaining continuous professional development (CPD) in the form of additional training in order to enhance skills and remain up to date with changes in the world of psychological support. This training is mandatory in accordance with the membership of professional bodies.
