About the role

Are you a highly creative and motivated Associate Test Engineer who enjoys breaking down technical challenges?

Do you have a passion for building frameworks that monitor and improve the reliability of solutions? Then you may be the perfect fit to join our dynamic Technology team!

We are currently looking to recruit an Associate Test Engineer who is passionate about quality and who is keen to develop their skillset at the cutting edge of Geospatial innovation. You will work as a part of a test team that develops automation to supports the next generation of systems, driving our world-leading geospatial and business applications. Using exciting technologies such as Machine Learning, the agile team is focused on use of automatic feature extraction to deliver solutions / data layers for our customers using cutting edge technology and approaches.

Your development and growth are at the heart of what we do. Once established, you will be working closely in a highly skilled professional team of Engineers and Architects championing quality. Alongside your team, you will play an essential role in shaping both back and front-end CI/CD test automation infrastructures in our Microsoft Azure environment.

At Ordnance Survey we have a strong testing community of test professionals that regularly support each other with monthly sessions on a plethora of test related topics, including the latest tools, and innovative techniques. We'd love for you to be a part of it!

What we're looking for

If you're interested in joining a team that lies at the heart of what OS is about, we're looking for someone that can demonstrate skills and experience in

  • Working within an established Test Strategy
  • Being part of a team that devises manual and automated test plans and test cases
  • Understanding of different Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies
  • Understanding and performing testing at different testing levels.
  • Using one or more programming languages (E.g. Python, C#, JavaScript, Java)
  • Knowledge of automated test frameworks
  • Showing initiative, an analytical mind and an eagerness to learn new IT practices
  • Working well within a team and/ or communicating well with a range of different stakeholders
  • Recording defects using a defect management tool such as Microsoft Azure Dev Ops

Experience In the Following Areas Would Be Advantageous

  • Awareness of geospatial systems, data, and technologies
  • Experience of data warehouses, data lakes or data lakehouses and Azure Data Factory
  • Understanding of Machine Learning
  • Ability to interrogate databases through SQL queries
  • Testing in a cloud environment (E.g., Microsoft Azure or AWS)
  • CI/CD pipelines
  • Understanding the difference between testing data quality and functional testing
  • Working towards an ISTQB Foundation certification or recognised equivalent

Location: We embrace a hybrid working model at OS and understand there is no one size fits all in relation to how we work. We have a fantastic HQ in Southampton, Hampshire where you will be required to spend some of your time based on the team's active projects and requirements for face-to-face collaboration with the remaining time being a personal choice as to whether you work from home or spend more time at OSHQ.
