Job Overview:

We are seeking a knowledgeable and experienced Buyer or Materials specialist with a strong understanding of REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals) regulations. The successful candidate will play a critical role in tracking, testing, and reporting on chemicals, particularly focusing on surface finishes in aerospace related to the transition from chrome VI.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Materials Procurement: Source and procure materials and components necessary for aerospace manufacturing, ensuring all materials meet regulatory and quality standards.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all materials comply with REACH regulations, including thorough tracking, testing, and reporting of chemicals.
  • Surface Finishes Management: Oversee the transition of surface finishes from chrome VI to compliant alternatives, ensuring minimal disruption to production and maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Supplier Management: Establish and maintain relationships with suppliers, negotiating contracts and ensuring timely delivery of materials.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of materials, chemicals, and compliance documentation, ensuring all data is up-to-date and easily accessible.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with engineering, quality assurance, and production teams to ensure material needs are met and compliance is maintained.
  • Risk Assessment: Conduct risk assessments related to chemical usage and materials, providing recommendations for risk mitigation.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in materials procurement, buying, or consulting within the aerospace industry.

  • Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of REACH regulations and their application in the aerospace sector. Experience with surface finishes, particularly the transition from chrome VI, is highly desirable.

  • Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

  • Proficiency in using procurement and inventory management software.
