Our client is a well established chemical manufacturing company based in Workington, Cumbria

Description

  • To understand the MAPP and Safety and Environment Management Systems.
  • To comply with company Health, Safety and Environmental policies, procedures and arrangements.
  • Where applicable, to inspect before use, and use correctly, the plant equipment, machinery and personal protective equipment provided, and take corrective action within your competency level and report to line management any defects identified.
  • To report all Health, Safety and Environmental accidents, incidents and near misses promptly.
  • To act in a safe and responsible manner at all times
  • Not to use any new equipment, or carry out any modification or change of process or system of work, without first ensuring that adequate assessment and authorisation has been carried out through the Management of Change procedure.
  • Where appropriate, to only undertake work for which you have been appropriately trained.
  • In the event of an abnormal situation or emergency, to carry out the necessary actions to ensure your own safety and that of others, in accordance with the site Emergency Procedures, and to be available to be part of the Emergency Response Team in line with your training, specialist skills and Departmental expertise.
  • To ensure that employees, including permanent, temporary or fixed contract workers under your control, understand and comply with the MAPP.
  • To ensure that others, such as visitors or contractors to your Department, comply with the Policy and its associated procedures.
  • To ensure that the MAPP and appropriate company standards are understood and are implemented.
  • To ensure that all safety and environmental protection equipment is adequate and maintained in sound working order.
  • To carry out and regularly review risk assessments of all work activities and to ensure adequate control measures are in place to prevent Major Accidents.
  • To ensure that all employees receive adequate training and instruction appropriate to their work.
  • To fully investigate accidents, near misses and incidents, identify root causes and act promptly on findings to prevent a recurrence.
  • To ensure that all new equipment, modifications or changes to systems of work are adequately assessed and approved before implementation.
  • To ensure that Health, Safety and Environmental procedures under your ownership are effectively implemented, monitored and reviewed
  • In accordance with the site Emergency Procedures, to perform the role of Incident Officer in the event of a Major Emergency or, to be available to carry out the responsibilities of the Site Incident Controller if deemed competent to do so.
  • To actively monitor the workplace for compliance with the Health, Safety and Environment programme and report findings to the appropriate Manager

Profile

  • Degree in a relevant Engineering discipline
  • Professional accreditation - a Chartered Engineer desirable but not essential
  • Proven experience in Maintenance/Reliability and Projects within Chemical/Petrochemical environment
  • COMAH exposure helpful but not essential
  • Wide knowledge of engineering practice and chemical plant maintenance
  • Management of multi-disciplined departments in maintenance and project activities
  • Contractual administration and financial/budgetary control and management
  • Communication with Local Authorities, Health and Safety Executive, Contracts and Consultants

Job Offer

£65,000 to £75,000 plus bonus and benefits
