Portfolio Manager

We're now looking to recruit a Portfolio Manager to join our investments team. As a Portfolio Manager you will support the Investments Director and the investment team in design, manufacture, monitoring and maintenance of AJBAM Managed Portfolios. This role can be based from our Manchester or London office.

What does the job involve?

The key responsibilities of the role are as follows:

  • Support the Investments Director in the maintenance of AJ Bell discretionary managed portfolios across the following areas:

  • Product governance through Investment Policy Statement design and monitoring.

  • Strategic asset allocation framework and implementation.

  • Contribution to tactical asset allocation decisions.

  • Working with investment research team to devise appropriate portfolio implementation strategies.

  • Relationship management with key clients.

  • Development and production of investment management MI.

  • Provide reports to and attend departmental fora.

  • Portfolio implementation through adherence to trading rules and consideration of other factors.

  • Engage with other areas of the business to support the growth of both AJ Bell Investments and the wider business.

  • Assist business development by meeting client firms.

  • Contribute to portfolio updates to help ensure timely communication with investors.

  • Train, mentor and develop less experienced employees.

What we're looking for:

  • Numerate degree (maths, physics, engineering, economics etc).
  • Relevant Level VII QCF Qualification.
  • CFA preferred or at least partial completion with a plan to complete.
  • Proficiency in use of Morningstar Direct.
  • Good understanding of Mean Variance Optimisation.
  • Ability to parse policy statements to ensure adherence within portfolios.
  • Lateral thinker who is comfortable critiquing existing processes and able to suggest improvements.
  • Willingness to engage on compliance and risk matters.
  • Able to write investment reports tailored to disparate readers.
  • Good Microsoft Office skills
  • Use of VBA or other programming skills preferred.
  • Comfortable presenting on both video and in person.
