Scope of the business

Working in a busy HR team providing support to 3000+ employees across 129+ sites across the UK. MKM is one of the fastest growing independent Builders Merchants in the UK. The business is growing rapidly, with 15+ new branch openings planned each year. HR in this context needs to be supportive, agile and commercially focussed.

Scope

We're on the hunt for a HR Assistant Extraordinaire to join our growing Human Resources team. Are you a star of multitasking with a knack for keeping things running smoothly? This role may just be for you! Encompassing the entire employee life cycle, this role really is one that will keep you on your toes. A fantastic opportunity to work with a nurturing and supportive team as part of the MKM family.

You will have responsibility for a wide range of duties supporting the very core of the HR activity for the business. This will touch all elements of the employee lifecycle, including but not limited to, onboarding and offers of employment, HR system management, and payroll support, and other general queries.

With such a rapidly growing business, there are plenty of opportunities in MKM to further your HR Career with extensive exposure to a diverse workload, projects and HR apprenticeships.

This role will offer up to £25,000 per annum, coupled with up to 10% annual bonus. In addition to that, this role is a hybrid role with 3 days in the office and 2 days remote working, access to Perkbox, staff discounts, 23 days holiday (rising to 25) excluding bank holidays.

Duties and responsibilities:

Onboarding Maestro: Orchestrate the most unforgettable onboarding experiences. Prepare welcome packs which include offer paperwork, organise new start inductions, and ensure every new hire knows the secret handshake (just kidding, or are we?)

Keeper of Records: Maintain employee records with precision. Confidentiality is key; trust is everything - observe GDPR legislation and operate with the highest professionalism.

HR Lifesaver: Provide first-aid in HR emergencies - from policy inquiries to guiding employees and answering their queries via telephone and email.

Engagement Enthusiast: Help us keep our team spirited and engaged. Maintain the MKM values throughout all communication and encourage our teams across the nation to nurture an environment whereby everybody is welcome.

Jack/Jill-of-All-Trades: Jump into various HR duties like a pro, here are a few:

  • Advising and supporting the nationwide branch network
  • Record and manage absence
  • Offer letters and contractual agreements
  • Keeping the HR database up to date
  • Payroll support
  • Onboarding and new starter processes
  • Leaver processes
  • Managing a busy HR generalist workload

The ideal candidate

The ideal candidate for the role of HR Assistant will be someone who is naturally people focussed and has a real flare to encourage the values and meaning of MKM. The perfect addition to the team will be open to exploring new and different ways of working and will enjoy being part of a nurturing and supportive HR function.

It will be great if you:

  • Have some experience of providing basic HR advice
  • Hold some knowledge of legislation surrounding absence, maternity and paternity, and contractual agreements.
  • You are proactive and organised.
  • You thrive in a busy environment and are able to work to tight deadlines, prioritising workload appropriately
  • Have some experience of HR databases would be a huge advantage, ideally iTrent (not essential)
