UK Operations Director – Portsmouth

The Operations Director role is a pivotal leadership role responsible for leading and evolving the day-to-day operations whilst transforming the processes, tools, IT systems and working practices to modernise into a market leading freight and logistics brand.

Main Responsibilities

  • Monitor revenue and cost performance monthly, against budget, accountable for that performance as part of the Group Freight Director's team.
  • Ensure effective management of the performance of all Operational Staff, through clear and measurable personal objectives, regularly monitoring progress to objectives, implementing bi-annual appraisals, identifying and implementing development and training needs in line with corporate policy.
  • Developing and implementing strategy and transformational plans which will: Introducing technology to make it easy for customers to do business with UK, Embed a culture of ownership and a proactive approach to thinking, Establish an effective and co-ordinated approach to managing customers, Maximise the brand value of UK within industry and with its customers, Establish and evolve the necessary organisational structure to deliver improved performance, thereby leading the comprehensive changes including people, culture, systems and processes needed to deliver sustainable growth.
  • Lead and direct the team of Operational Managers ensuring delivery of: Strategic Business Plans, Compliance with regulatory obligations, Effective Risk management, Effective communications, Improved operational efficiency and Competitive advantage.
  • Ensure controls are in place: devise and embed policies and procedures that enable all core operations functions to achieve business objectives and targets, create and control all business line budgets to ensure costs remain under control, create business cases to purchase equipment/fleet so that resources are available to operational needs and meet value for money parameters, controls distribution and warehousing so that customers receive their orders on time and take responsibility for health and safety across all worksites.

Person Requirements

  • A visionary and impactful leader of people, with extensive sector experience and a track record of successfully leading people through change.
  • Develop productive working relationships with other business directors to coordinate company activities.
  • Gather, analyse and disseminate relevant operational data to aid decision making.
  • Building a stronger health and safety culture to reduce risks to the business and safeguard staff and premises.

Skills / Experience Requirements

  • Extensive experience in operations management, ideally in logistics, transport, shipping or a closely aligned field
  • Knowledge of the different operational business functions and their principles of management, such as customer services, logistics and supply chains
  • Advanced analytical skills to gather, assess and communicate performance metrics for all operational functions
  • In-depth knowledge of the freight industry, its market, its operational framework and all relevant processes
  • Superb organisational skills and proven leadership capabilities, including leading through uncertainty and change.

Salary

  • Salary up to £80,000 per annum
