Lead Building Safety Officer

We are working with organisation based in the North East of England who will be recruiting for a Lead Building Safety Officer in the coming weeks.

Role Overview:

As the Lead Building Safety Officer, you will play a critical role in managing and overseeing all aspects of building safety within our jurisdiction. You will be responsible for ensuring compliance with the latest building safety regulations, driving improvements in safety standards, and leading a team of safety officers to deliver a comprehensive building safety service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the building safety team, providing expert guidance and support.
  • Oversee the implementation and monitoring of building safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with current building safety legislation, including the Building Safety Act and relevant fire safety regulations.
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits of high-risk buildings, identifying potential safety risks and recommending corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including fire services, building owners, and residents, to ensure a coordinated approach to building safety.
  • Lead on the preparation and submission of building safety case reports and other required documentation.
  • Provide training and development opportunities for team members to ensure they are up-to-date with the latest regulations and best practices.
  • Act as the main point of contact for building safety issues within the authority, providing expert advice and responding to queries and concerns.
  • Develop and maintain a robust risk management framework for building safety.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Relevant degree or equivalent qualification in building safety, fire safety, engineering, or a related field.
  • Extensive experience in a building safety role, with a strong understanding of current UK building safety regulations.
  • Proven leadership experience, with the ability to manage and develop a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Professional membership with a relevant body (e.g., Chartered Institute of Building, Institute of Fire Engineers) is desirable.
