Bloomberg runs on data. Our products are fueled by powerful information. We combine data and context to paint the whole picture for our clients, around the clock - from around the world. In Data, we are responsible for delivering this data, news and analytics through innovative technology - quickly and accurately. We apply problem-solving skills to identify innovative workflow efficiencies, and we implement technology solutions to enhance our systems, products and processes.

What's the role?

Bloomberg Data is looking for a highly motivated Team Leader to lead our Events and Transcripts team with direct reports in New Jersey and London. In this role, you are required to be a hands-on leader that can effectively manage, motivate, and develop a hard-working team with strong subject-matter expertise, technical skills, and strategic development. You will mentor your team to improve quality and timeliness of the product, as well as continuously enhance the product with evolving client needs and evolving technologies in machine learning and generative AI.

This position requires extensive global communication and internal partner management with Analytics, Sales, Analytics, News, Engineering, Bloomberg Intelligence, and other Data teams. Your role is key in ensuring consistency of standards and collaborating with others to oversee the delivery of accurate and timely events data and transcript product whilst continually seeking new ways to operate more efficiently.

We'll trust you to:

  • Mentor, inspire, and grow a dedicated team of data analysts, data engineers, and vendor manager to form a collaborative team unit to solve complex problems and deliver business outcomes.
  • Develop each team member's domain expertise, data analysis, business intelligence, project management, and/or resource management through coaching and constructive feedback to be able to proactively spot gaps and opportunities for future innovation.
  • Stay ahead of relevant trends across your remit: generative AI trends and how they can be used for transcript analysis; how the financial community uses events across company reporting, backtesting, alternative data, and more.
  • Provide and articulate a vision on how events and transcripts products should be commercialized including through Enterprise packaging.
  • Lead the team to partner with global counterparts, other data teams, and core business groups, including Product, News, Bloomberg Intelligence and Engineering to help develop and improve fit-for-purpose data that powers our products, including functionality across the product set.
  • Guide the team to design and implement proactive data quality management supported by client-focused metrics and process observability (i.e. business intelligence) for the product and operations.
  • Be an advocate for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, truly understanding its importance to our business, culture, and people.

You'll need to have:

  • Please note we use years of experience as a guide but we certainly will consider applications from all candidates who are able to demonstrate the skills necessary for the role.
  • A minimum of 3+ years of relevant leadership experience or strong relevant experience as an individual contributor, and relevant domain knowledge*
  • A minimum of 3+ years of technical experience to lead a team of data analysts and ensure high standards in production deliveries including deep technical competence in Python and data modeling*
  • Experience in schema and workflow design
  • Experience driving strategies, managing complex projects, and leadership ability in change management or influencing others
  • Demonstrable ability to use technology to develop innovative data products and processes
  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or related degree/equivalent experience

We'd love to see:

  • A Master's degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or another computational or business field
  • Experience deploying and maintaining production workflows (e.g., ETL, predictive models)
  • Understanding and curiosity towards model AI/ML approaches and human-in-the-loop components of model development lifecycle (annotation, evaluation, monitoring)
  • Document/text processing tools: regex and a suite of Python libraries to extract information from html, pdf
  • Varied project management experience and/or certifications (CAPM, PMP and/or CSM)
  • Experience using data visualization tools such as Tableau or QlikSense
  • Understanding of Data Governance and Data Management Principle (ie. CDMP)
