The School
A large secondary school with an extended inclusion unit. The unit is utilised by all students at different points during the school day. Most students accessing the unit have SEND (Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities) and SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs.

The Role
You will be working in the inclusion unit for most of the time, with some classroom-based work if required. Most of the work will be one-to-one support for individual pupils, with some small group interventions as well. A big part of the role will be supporting pupils social, emotional and mental health development.

Main Responsibilities
Support students develop a positive sense of self and self-regulation strategies
Manage challenging behaviour in a calm and patient manner
Deliver planned interventions under the guidance of the class teacher
Feedback to the class teacher and SENDCo

Essential Criteria

  • Remain calm in challenging situations
  • Build trusting relationships
  • Good listening skills
  • Ability to adapt and use own initiative
  • Patience and resilience

Desirable Criteria

  • Team Teach qualification
  • Teaching Assistant qualification
  • Prior experience working in a secondary school
