Location: Thetford

Salary: £50-£60k

Hours: Onsite Monday to Friday 8.30am - 5pm

We are seeking a driven and competent Engineering Manager with proven managerial skills to join our client's team. The successful candidate will take overall responsibility for running a small, tight-knit team, with an emphasis on team cohesion and time management to ensure all targets are met on or ahead of time. The team provides technical support and advice, layout drawings, raises bills of materials, and offers shop floor technical support in a fast-paced engineering environment.

Key Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Degree level qualification or equivalent in mechanical engineering.
  • Sound understanding of automotive and road legal legislation.
  • Experience working in the automotive, aerospace, or specialist vehicle sectors.
  • Proficient in 3D CAD and simulation software.
  • Ability to develop and implement engineering plans under pressure to deliver solutions.
  • Passion and drive to manage and mentor a small team of engineers with a continual focus on improvement and cost efficiency.
  • Proficiency in applying the first principles of engineering to perform load and performance calculations.

Desirable Experience or Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of National Small Series Type Approval or European Type Approval legislation.
  • Experience in the vehicle body builder sector.
  • Understanding and working knowledge of hydraulic and electrical systems.
  • Experience with fabrication and welding techniques.
  • Project management experience or qualifications.
  • Ability to research and introduce new technologies relevant to the industry.
  • Ensure design work complies with EN 14001 requirements.
  • Experience with ISO:9001 PEARS reports and meeting engineering targets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the engineering team to ensure projects are delivered on time with accuracy and consistency.
  • Conduct compatibility investigations to determine whether equipment will fit onto the chassis platform and operate safely, providing maximum performance to meet customer needs.
  • Design and layout precise drawing plans to ensure stainless-steel bodywork integrates with the chassis and equipment with minimal alterations at the point of installation.
  • Complete calculated test figures of completed builds and provide a technical data pack for the customer.
  • Provide end-to-end project support and management for bespoke or one-off customer requirements.
  • Maintain and enhance good working relationships with all departments and companies.
