I am working with Kirkby High School (L32 9PP) to find them a permanent DT Technician to support the department in preparing for, and assisting with, practical workshop sessions. You'll work alongside a qualified teacher and be given full training.

This role would suit an enthusiastic person who is comfortable around children and has hands on workshop / maintenance experience. No DT qualification or school experience needed.

You will be given lots of support, training, and access to recognised courses. You'll also benefit from an excellent local authority pension.

Important Details:

  • Actual salary is £23,372 - £25,450.
  • Working 46 weeks per year.
  • Automatic annual pay rise.
  • 36 hours per week / 40 weeks per year (includes 5 inset days).
  • 08:00 - 16:00 Monday to Friday (some flexibility).
  • No working from home.
  • SCP 12-17, Pay Grade F.

Duties of the DT Technician:

  • Promote and maintain a safe working environment, following CLEAPPS and COSHH regulations.
  • Ensure the safe treatment and disposal of materials, including hazardous substances, and respond to hazards.
  • Arrange safe and accessible storage for equipment and materials.
  • Provide guidance and support to pupils and teachers.
  • Manage stock control, compile orders, and negotiate with suppliers.
  • Perform checking, cleaning, maintenance, and testing of equipment as required by the Head of Faculty.
  • Maintain the department database for stock and student assessment results.
  • Research and compile materials for teaching.
  • Assist students with practical work.
  • Manage IT resources within the faculty.
  • Perform admin duties when necessary.
  • Act as a designated 'First Aider.'
  • Comply with policies and procedures, reporting concerns appropriately.

The DT Technician must have/be:

  • A relevant degree or equivalent experience.
  • Maths and English at C grade or above (or equivalent).
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Willing to cooperate and collaborate with colleagues.
  • Comfortable working around children.
  • Ability to show initiative and accept responsibility.
  • Effective time and resource management.
  • Awareness of Health and Safety procedures.
  • Interest and expertise in a wide range of technologies.
  • Knowledge of current and emerging technology curriculum developments.
  • Flexible and adaptable.
  • Positive role model for school community.
  • Willing to complete ongoing training.
