Highways Maintenance Engineer - Manchester City Council

  • Pay rate: Up to £40ph Umbrella
  • Location: Manchester, hybrid working
  • Hours: Full time, 36.5 per week
  • Contract: Initially until 01/11/2024

Manchester City Council is looking for a Highway Maintenance (NM) Engineer to join the Highways Service team within the Neighbourhoods Directorate. The role holder will provide technical expertise and lead on a variety of highway maintenance projects, ensuring compliance with legislation and contributing to the Council's corporate objectives. This role is ideal for someone with a background in highway engineering or design, who is looking to apply their skills to impactful projects in Greater Manchester.

Role Portfolio:

  • Contribute to the delivery of the Greater Manchester Transport Strategy 2040 and National Transport Strategies.
  • Manage and maintain the highway network, public spaces, and winter services efficiently.
  • Develop, design, procure, and implement maintenance improvement schemes to enhance the existing network.
  • Support utility companies to manage critical infrastructure.

Key Role Responsibilities:

  • Manage and maintain highways, including defect repairs, gully cleansing, drainage improvement programmes, and winter maintenance.
  • Responsibility for contracts related to highway maintenance workstreams.
  • Report on technical engineering, performance, quality, and commercial aspects.
  • Keep asset management information up to date.
  • Lead on project communication with stakeholders throughout the duration of schemes.
  • Undertake traffic engineering/highway design feasibility studies as required.
  • Budget and project management of schemes, with financial and procurement accountability.
  • Comply with CDM requirements and Health and Safety legislation.
  • Provide technical supervision and guidance to junior staff.
