The Training

Oakensen are committed to helping you develop your skills, both technical and interpersonal, to provide the opportunity for you to further your career as quickly as possible. We care deeply about ensuring you become a highly competent and fully qualified Chartered Accountant.

At work you will have the opportunity to regularly face new challenges and solve complex problems that may be out of your comfort zone. It is important that you are able learn quickly and adapt to a variety a new tasks. To make this easier we have a structured training plan and place a lot of focus on developing you as an individual, helping you build your confidence and achieve your potential.

You will receive a full study support package to help you gain your ACA qualification as part of a level 7 apprenticeship. You will have peer support in the workplace as well as a tailored development plan and regular reviews.

It is important that you are committed, and able to focus on both your work and your studies concurrently. The ACA exams are academically challenging, especially when coupled with a full-time job. We estimate that you will spend an average of 10-20 hours studying each week on top of your work responsibilities. It is not easy, and it is important you understand this.

Responsibilities:

Accountancy in today's world is less about numeracy and listing invoices, and more about analysing data and solving problems. You will be dealing with clients on a day-to-day basis, interpreting data, communicating information, and providing solutions.

You will be working on a mix of Accounting and Financial Reporting, Tax, and Audit assignments. Developing a broad skill-set that can take your career in a variety of directions.

You will need to apply technical skills to a wide variety of clients. You will learn to prepare financial statements for a variety of entities, to prepare tax returns for individuals and companies, and how to audit accounts for fraud or error.

You will learn to use a variety of different software packages, help clients implement digital solutions, and communicate complex technical information to business owners and directors.

As you progress you will be given mentorship and management responsibilities to help you develop leadership skills.

Person specification

  • University Degree or predicted degree in any discipline (minimum 2:1)
  • The ability to problem solve at a high level and work well under pressure
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Interested in developing a career in accounting and finance
  • Resilient, and committed to pursuing success in both your exams and your career
